The Housing Availability and Affordability Study for Kootenai County was sponsored by Jobs Plus, Panhandle Affordable Housing Alliance, Avista Foundation and University of Idaho’s College of Business and Economics to analyze the region’s housing challenges in the face of a limited supply along with sharply increasing demand. Though the study examines housing needs at all levels of income, its primary focus is on middle-income Kootenai County households. The study is intended to provide an understanding of the needs so that stakeholders in the region can develop solutions to meet these needs.

The Regional Housing and Growth Issues Partnership is using this data to develop housing solutions and recommendations in an effort to change the trajectory of Kootenai County’s housing crisis. The goal of the Partnership is for home ownership to be achievable for the residents of Kootenai County, and to build and retain housing inventory for local workers.
